Hi

Recently, I went away on vacation for 15 days. Upon leaving, I shut off the computer but perhaps not my cable modem that has Wi-Fi capability. Upon my return, I checked my Internet usage expecting to be zero or very close since I didn't use the Internet while I was away. Much to my surprise, I found out that the usage was somewhere between 390 and 406 MB each day. That comes to almost 12 Gigs per month. The cable provider promised me I could use 50 Gigs per month, but as a result, it seems I only get to use 38 Gigs per month. The rest is used by the system itself. Am I being cheated by my cable company?

What could this be caused by?

If I had shut off the cable modem, would it have made any difference?

Thank you.
